Developing values-guided, adaptable, and committed athletes
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy combined with practical psychological skills training
what is aligned performance coaching?
-
APC offers individualized mental performance coaching to athletes specifically during transitional periods of their career such as progression to university or finishing competitive sport. See Programs for more information. Coaching is based upon Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) along with practical psychological skills training. Therefore, the goal is to help athletes stay in the present moment and take action through values-based living both in competition and in everyday life. See About for a full explanation of ACT, psychological skills training, and how the approach is applied in a sports setting.

Why are we called Aligned Performance Coaching? Our foundation is built on “aligning” an individual’s true, core values with their behavior. In short, we start each program by helping the athlete discover what truly matters to them in life and in their career. Then, we help them determine what actionable, workable steps they can take to further develop. And that process looks different for every athlete!

Aligned Performance Coaching was launched in May of 2026 with the goal of bringing more attention to athletes experiencing major career changes. APC’s founder - Peyton Pesavento Johnston - a former Division I tennis player, studied Health & Exercise Science and Psychology at Wake Forest University in the U.S. and completed her master’s in Performance Psychology at The University of Edinburgh in Scotland. Her studies, research, and sporting background provide an informed perspective in her coaching practice. Most importantly, she is passionate about supporting athletes to help them grow and develop towards their fullest potential.
